There are three ways to get classes set up on Dr Frost Maths:
- MIS sync — automatically imports your classes and students from your school's Management Information System. This is the recommended approach for most schools. See: How do I set up integration with Wonde?
- Spreadsheet import — upload your class lists in Excel or CSV format. Classes are created automatically as part of the import. See: How do I import students using a spreadsheet?
- Add a single class — create one class at a time manually. This is covered in this article.
Use the single class method if you're setting up a small number of classes, adding a class mid-year, or creating an additional class (such as an intervention group or maths club) alongside classes that already exist.
Getting to the class creation screen
How you get to the class creation screen depends on whether your school already has classes set up. Start by navigating to the Classes page from the user settings menu (under your name in the upper right hand corner of the screen)
If your school has no classes yet (for example, during a free trial):
You'll see the Classes Setup screen, which presents your setup options. Click + Add single class.
If your school already has classes:
Select Classes from the user menu, then click the + Add class button in the top right of the Classes page.
Step 1: Choose your class type
You'll be asked what type of class you'd like to add.
If your school does not use MIS sync, you'll see two options:
- Standard class — your main teaching group, typically following your timetable.
- Additional class — for temporary or supplementary groups such as intervention sets, enrichment groups, or after-school clubs. These sit alongside your standard classes.
Important: Standard classes will be removed if your school enables MIS sync in future. If you think your school may connect to an MIS, consider whether an additional class would be more appropriate — or be aware that you may need to recreate the class after syncing.
If your school uses MIS sync, you'll only see the option to add an Additional class. Your main teaching classes are created automatically through your MIS sync.
Step 2: Enter the class details
Complete the following details for your new class:
- Class name — this will be visible to students and must be unique within your school (e.g. 10MA4)
- Year group — select from the dropdown
- Teachers (optional) — assign one or more teachers to this class. You can update this later.
- Courses (optional) — assign a course to this class. You can update this later.
Click Add standard class or Add additional class to create your class.
What's next?
Your new class will now appear in your Classes list. Click Open class to open it, then choose how you'd like to add students:
- How do I invite students using a class join link?
- How do I add an individual student?
- How do I import students using a spreadsheet?
