As students join, move between sets, or leave during the year, you'll need to keep your class lists current. This article covers the most common mid-term changes for teachers managing classes manually.
If your school uses MIS sync: your student enrolment is managed automatically each time a sync runs. You won't need to make these changes manually for your synced classes. You may still need to manage any additional classes you've created manually.
Adding a student to your class
There are a few ways to add a student to a class depending on the situation:
- Adding a student who already has an account: see How do I add an individual student?
- Adding a student who is new to the school: see How do I add an individual student? to create their account and add them to your class
- Inviting students to join themselves: see How do I invite students using a class join link?
Managing students in your class
The following class changes can be made via the Actions menu. To access this, select Classes from the user menu (where you see your name in the header bar). Expand the class you want and tick the checkbox next to the relevant student's name. You can select multiple students if needed. Click Actions.
Moving a student to a different class
Use this when a student is changing set and should no longer be in their current class.
From the Actions menu, click Move to class. Then, either select an existing class from the dropdown or click + Create new class. Click Move to confirm.
The student(s) will be removed from their current class and added to the new one.
Adding a student to a second class
Use this when a student needs to be in more than one class at the same time, for example an intervention group, without removing them from their current class.
From the Actions menu, click Add to class. Then, either select an existing class from the dropdown or click + Create new class. Click Add to confirm.
The student(s) will be kept in their current class and added to the new one.
Removing a student from a class
Use this when a student should no longer be in a specific class but is still at your school.
From the Actions menu, click Remove from class. Then, click Remove to confirm.
The student(s) will be removed from that class but will remain active in the system. They can be added to another class at any time. You can find students who are not currently in any class by going to Settings > Students and filtering by Students without class.
Archiving a student who has left
Use this when a student has left the school and you want to remove them from your classes without fully deleting their account.
From the Actions menu, click Archive. Then, click Archive to confirm.
The student(s) will be removed from all classes but will retain access to their account and past work.
For more information on what archiving means and how to manage archived students, see What does Archived mean, and how do I manage archived students?
