If a student is locked out of their account and can't reset their password themselves, you can generate a temporary password for them. The most common scenario is resetting for a single student via your Students settings. If you need to reset for a whole class at once, see Resetting login for multiple students below.
Warning: Resetting login removes all existing login methods for the student and this cannot be undone. They will only be able to log in using the temporary password, after which they’ll be prompted to set a new login method. See What the student does next at the bottom of this article.
Resetting login for a single student
Step 1: Go to your Students settings
Select Settings from the user menu, then choose Students from the left-hand navigation.
Step 2: Find the student
Use the search box to find the student by name or email address.
Step 3: Open the reset option
Click the three dots (...) in the Manage column next to the student's name, then select Reset login.
Step 4: Confirm the reset
A confirmation box will appear explaining what will happen, and showing the student's name. You can choose to either have a password automatically generated (if you select this option the password will be generated and shown to you after you click Reset), or to create a password of your choosing. Once you've chosen the option you want, click Reset to proceed.
Step 5: Share the temporary password with the student
Once the reset is complete, you'll see the student's email or username and their temporary password. Click the eye icon to reveal the password, then copy it or make a note of it to share with the student.
Important: You will not be able to view this password again after closing this screen.
Resetting login for multiple students
You can reset login for several students at once from your Classes settings. This is useful if a whole class needs new passwords at the start of term, for example.
Step 1: Go to your Classes settings
Select Settings from the user menu, then choose Classes from the left-hand navigation. You can use the filter or search box to find the class you want.
Step 2: Expand the class
You can click the class name to expand it and see the student list or click Open class to go to the class page, both work in the same way.
Step 3: Select students
Use the checkboxes to select the students you want to include. Tick the checkbox in the header row to select all students in the class at once.
Step 4: Click Reset login
Once students are selected, click the Reset login button that appears above the student list. You can then choose to either have a password automatically generated (if you select this option the password will be generated and shown to you after you click Reset), or to create a password of your choosing. Either way, the temporary password will be the same for all selected students. Once you've chosen the option you want, click Reset to proceed.
Step 5: Share the temporary password with your students
All selected students will share the same temporary password. Copy it or make a note of it to share with your class.
Important: You will not be able to view this password again after closing this screen.
What the student does next
The student should go to the Dr Frost login page and sign in using their username or email address and the temporary password you've provided. They'll then be prompted to set a new login method.
If your school uses mandatory Single Sign-On (SSO), the student will need to link their account to your school's Microsoft or Google account at this point rather than setting a password. See: How do we enable mandatory SSO for our school? for more details about mandatory SSO.
