Archived is a status that indicates a student is no longer in an active class. It doesn't mean the student's account has been deleted. Archived students can still log in, access their past work, and complete tasks independently.
What causes a student to be archived?
There are three ways a student can become archived:
MIS sync
When a sync runs, any students who are no longer included in your MIS class data are automatically archived. This most commonly happens at the start of a new term when class lists change.
Spreadsheet import
If you use the Replace All option when importing a spreadsheet, any students not included in the new import will be archived.
Manual archiving
Teachers can archive students manually, for example when a student has left the school.
What can archived students do?
Archived students retain access to their account. They can still log in, view their past work, and complete tasks independently. However, they will not appear on or be able to see class leaderboards, and they cannot be added to classes until they are unarchived.
How do I view archived students?
Go to Settings and choose Students from the left-hand navigation. Use the Filter students dropdown and select Archived students to see a searchable list of all archived students at your school.
How do I archive a student manually?
Go to Settings > Classes, expand the relevant class, and select the student or students you want to archive using the checkboxes. Click the Archive button that appears above the student list.
A confirmation modal will remind you that the student's account will remain active after archiving. Click Archive to proceed.
How do I unarchive a student?
Non-MIS sync schools
Go to Settings > Students and filter to Archived students. Find the student, click the three dots (...) in the Manage column, and select Unarchive. Once unarchived, the student can be added to classes again.
MIS sync schools
You don't need to unarchive students manually. If an archived student is added to a class in your MIS, they will be automatically unarchived and added to the correct class the next time a sync runs.
