Our new School Insights page gives authorised users an overview of activity and engagement within a school for a selected reporting period.
You can use School Insights to review:
- Teacher task-setting activity
- Student activity
- Homework completion
- Year group activity
- Independent student activity
- Teacher activity
Who can access School Insights?

Open School Insights
School admins and HoDs
- Open the Tasks & Learning section of the navigation menu.
- Select School Insights.
Trust admins
You can open a school's School Insights page from Trust Insights:
- Open the School activity table.
- Find the school you want to review.
- Select View insights.
You can also use the school switcher on a school's School Insights page to move directly to another school in the same trust.
Headline Measures
The headline measures at the top of the page give you a quick overview of activity during the selected reporting period.

| Teachers setting tasks | Shows the number and percentage of teachers who have set tasks, compared with the total number of teachers |
| Students active | Shows the number and percentage of students who have started at least one task, compared with the total number of students |
| Questions answered | Shows the total number of questions answered and the percentage answered correctly |
For Questions answered, the bar also shows the proportion of correct and incorrect answers.
Select an information icon for additional context about a measure.
Homework Completion
The Homework completion section shows homework that was due during the selected reporting period.
The visualisation shows:
- The overall percentage of homework completed
- Homework completed On time
- Homework completed Late
- Homework that is Incomplete or Overdue
Compare homework completion by year group
The year group table shows:

| Homework completion | The percentage of assigned homework completed, or an indication that no homework is due |
Use the checkboxes to select the year groups you want to include in the visualisation. All available year groups are selected by default.
You can sort the table by any column. The default sort is Homework completion, with the highest percentage shown first.
Download overdue homework
To download a list of students with overdue homework:
- Select Download overdue homework.
- The
.csvfile is created and downloaded.
The file includes all year groups, regardless of the year groups selected in the visualisation.
It uses the due-date range selected at the top of the page and includes:
- Student last name
- Student first name
- Year
- Class
- Homework name
- Teacher set by
- Set date
- Due date
- Homework started (Y/N)
Year Group Activity
The Year group activity table lets you compare activity across year groups.
It shows:
- Active students – the number of active students compared with the total number of students
- Active students (%) – the percentage of students recorded as active
- Total tasks completed – the total number of completed tasks
- Homework tasks completed – the number of completed homework tasks
- Questions answered – the total number of questions answered
- Question accuracy – the percentage of questions answered correctly, with correct and incorrect answers shown separately
You can sort the table using the column headings. By default, it is sorted by Total tasks completed, with the highest number first.
Student Independent Activity
The Student independent activity section shows tasks completed independently by students.
The visualisation shows:
- The total number of independent tasks completed
- The distribution of independent task types:
- Clean-up
- Exam questions
- Subskill practice
- Teacher set
Compare independent activity by year group
The year group table shows the number of Independent tasks completed for each year group.
Use the checkboxes to select the year groups you want to include in the visualisation. All available year groups are selected by default.
You can sort the table by any column. The default sort is Independent tasks completed, with the highest number first.
Teacher Activity
The Teacher activity table shows how teachers associated with the school are using DFM.
It includes:

| Total tasks set | The total number of tasks set during the selected period |
| Homework tasks set | The number of homework tasks set during the selected period |
| Last login | The teacher's most recent login, shown as a relative time |
The number of teachers included in the table is shown above it.
You can sort the table by any column. By default, it is sorted by Total tasks set, with the highest number first.
Trust Admins - Switching Between Schools
If you're a Trust admin, you can move between schools without returning to the trust overview.
From a school's School Insights page, use the school switcher to select another school in the same trust.
You can also select Return to Trust Insights to go back to the trust overview.
Important Things to Know
- Year group selections only affect their own section. Selecting year groups in one section does not filter the rest of the page.
- Sorting only changes the order, it does not change the totals or underlying data.
- N/A means a percentage cannot be calculated. This may appear for homework completion where there is not enough data to calculate a percentage.
- Overdue homework downloads include every year group, the download is not affected by your year group selections.
- Information icons provide more detail. Select them beside relevant measures and table headings to see additional context.
