Getting your child set up with Dr Frost Maths
School account
If your child's school is subscribed to Dr Frost, they may already have a student account set up for them. To help your child get logged into this account, follow our login guide here: How do I log in to my account for the first time?
Their teacher can set them tasks to complete on this account, which they'll be able to see on their dashboard when they log in.
If you are having trouble logging into the account, it's worth double-checking with your child's school or teacher whether the school subscribes to Dr Frost Maths and whether they've created a student account for your child.
Independent account
If your child's school doesn't use Dr Frost Maths, you can create an independent student account for them. This allows them to use Dr Frost Maths to practise and learn independently, without needing their school to be subscribed. Simply follow the steps below to set this up.
- Go to www.drfrost.org and click Register Now.
- Click Sign up now under 'I'm a student learning independently'.
- Enter a personal email address. This can be yours or your child's, but don't use your child's school email address.
- When you click Continue, this will send a registration email to the address you entered. Open the email, click the link, and follow the on-screen instructions to set up the account.
Helping your child with their learning
Whether your child has a school account or an independent account, there are lots of ways you can help them make the most of Dr Frost Maths!
Here are a few ways you can guide their learning and help them find the right resources to practise with.
Following a course
One of the best ways to guide your child's learning is to help them find a course to work through.
Our courses are collections of questions, videos, and exam practice, organised according to a particular specification, curriculum, or scheme of learning. For example, our AQA GCSE Mathematics (Higher) course contains questions, vidoes, and exam practice covering everything required for the AQA GCSE Mathematics (Higher) exams.
If your child has a school-linked account, their school may already have assigned them a course. To check whether they've been assigned on, you can follow our guide here: How do I view courses for my school?
You can find all our published courses by going to the Menu in the top left, then selecting Courses.
At the bottom of the courses page, click View all published courses.
You can scroll down this page to look for the right course for your child, or use the 'Filter by name...' box to search our courses by name.
When you click on a course, this will open the page for that course, and from here your child can select topics to learn and practice. They can work through the course from beginning to end, or you can choose specific topics that you'd like them to focus on. It's entirely up to you!
TIP - You can see the video for each subskill by clicking the video icon, so Dr Jamie Frost can guide your child through the topic!
Practicing specific skills
If there's something specific you'd like your child to work on, perhaps a topic they've recently covered at school or something they're finding difficult, you can search for individual skills.
Use the search bar at the top of the page to search by skill name or skill number.
You can browse our full skills index here.
Pre-made question sets and past papers
As well as our individual subskill question generators, which let your child choose exactly what they'd like to practise, we also have ready-made question sets, revision worksheets, and past papers for your child to practise online.
Past Papers
To find our full collection of past papers, go to the Menu in the top-left corner and select All Past Papers.
If you child is studying for their GCSEs, they can use our GCSE Revision Hub to practise past papers. For more information, watch our video from Dr Jamie Frost here: New Student GCSE Revision Tools! - Article for Students
On this page, you can click through the folders to find the past paper you want to practice.
Revision Worksheets and Topic Tests
You'll also find our ready-made question sets on this page. Use the options on the left-hand side to find:
- Revision: Revision worksheets covering different qualification levels.
- Topic Tests: Short tests of eight questions covering a range of topics.
Downloadable Lesson Resources
We have a huge selection of downloadable lesson PowerPoints and Exercise Sheets. To find these, scroll down to the bottom of your child's dashboard and click Lesson Resources.
You can download these and view them on your device, or print them out if you'd like to!
Tracking Progress
As your child works through questions and practises different skills, there are a few ways you can keep track of how they're getting on.
Viewing their practice results
To see the results of any pracitces your child has completed, go to the menu in the top left and select Progress Data.
The My Progress page initially displays an overview of your child's activity on Dr Frost Maths.
Click the Activity tab to see a list of the practices they've completed and the scores they achieved.
TIP: You can change the date range to see their progress over a different period.
You can also click on the blue links, such as 135 Exam Practice: Introduction to sequences, to open an individual practice. This lets you review their answers and see which questions they got incorrect.
Viewing their progress with individual skills
Another way to see how your child is getting on is to visit the course they're working through. If they aren't following a particular course, you could use our All Skills course instead.
On the course page, you'll be able to see their recent accuracy for the different skills they've been practising.
You'll also be able to see their mastery level for each skill. This is a score out of 100 that indicates how close they are to mastering that particular skill.
For more information about how mastery works, see our article for teachers: What are mastery and points, and where can I view them?
